Obituary for Dorothy Hurst

Dorothy Hurst was born on December 16, 1932, in Stanton County, Kansas, and died on June 24, 2018, in the Satanta District Hospital. She was the daughter of Mervin Peter “Pete” Molz and Mary Alice (Shorter) Molz of NE Stanton County, Kansas.

Dorothy attended Stanton County Schools graduating from Stanton County High School in 1950. She married Roger Hurst in 1951. She lived on or within 1 mile of the Molz family homestead until 1993, when she became a resident of Ulysses, Kansas.
Dorothy did volunteer work at the Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas, as a “pink lady” by working in the hospital gift shop. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed time spent outdoors tending her flowers and vegetables. Her passion was propagating and growing African Violets indoors under grow lights. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed telling stories of yesteryear to all, but especially to the younger generations.

Dorothy is survived by her children; Sheryl (Dennis) Deyoe of Ulysses, Kansas; Deborah (Lonnie) Walker of Manter, Kansas; Gary (Deanna) Hurst of Lyons, Kansas; and Brent (Maryann) Hurst of Colwich, Kansas; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, MP and Mary Alice Molz; sister, Marjorie Molz; and three brothers, LeRoy, Raymond and Donald Molz.

Graveside memorial service will be Saturday, June 30, 2018, at 10:30 AM at Ulysses Cemetery with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
