Obituary for Rita G. Munoz

Rita G. Munoz, 83 of Garden City died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born March 27, 1931 in Hutchinson, Kansas the daughter of Bartolo & Petra (Delgado) Garcia.
Rita moved with her family to Deerfield, Kansas when she was a child. She lived most of her life in Garden City. On December 31, 1957 she married Romaldo C. Munoz in Lakin, Kansas. Rita began working for USD #457 in Garden City in 1970. For the next 38 years, Rita worked as a bus driver, a para and a crossing guard for USD #457. She retired in 2008. Rita was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the GI Forum Women’s Auxiliary, and she volunteered many hours at the Senior Center and for the Fiesta Committee. She enjoyed dancing, listening to music, cooking, helping others, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include seven children Guadalupe “Lupe” Morgan of Flint, MI, John & wife Geri Garcia of Guymon, OK, Rachel & husband Jon Strait of New Orleans, LA, Robert & wife Julie Munoz of Kansas City, MO, Rose Munoz of Kansas City, MO, Rocky & wife Tracy Munoz of Garden City, KS, and Manuel & wife Rosa Gomez of Garden City, KS; Daughter-In-Law Robin Munoz of Florida; two Sons-In-Law Javier Ortega of Garden City, KS and Andrew Guebara, Sr. of Garden City, KS; two brothers Pete Garcia of Garden City, KS and Louis Garcia of Ft. Collins, CO; four sisters Margie Bribiesca of Garden City, KS, Jenny Williams of Wichita, KS, Katie Szelenyi of Wichita, KS, and Jo Doffing of Wichita, KS; 34 grandchildren; 80 great grandchildren; and 26 great great grandchildren. Rita is preceded in death by her husband Romaldo who died on January 10, 1993. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a son Mike Munoz; two daughters Maryann Ortega and Laura Guebara; a brother Tony Garcia; two sisters Margaret Silva and Antonia Garcia; 5 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2014 also at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. Charles Seiwert as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to the Rita Munoz Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
