Obituary for Velda J. Tackett
Velda J. Tackett, age 75, of Hugoton, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton. She was born March 16, 1947, in Liberal, Kansas, the daughter of Finis Lee and Geneva Mae (Prather) Holder.
Velda grew up around Hooker, Oklahoma. She had lived in Hugoton the last 50 plus years. Velda married Curtis Tackett on November 16, 1963. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant for 10 years and later managed Dick & Marie’s for several years. Velda enjoyed living on the farm and raised several farm animals, including a couple abandoned raccoons. She loved genealogy, and she loved her many grandchildren; always giving them her bits of wisdom.
Velda is survived by her daughters, Cindy Arnold and husband David of Hugoton, Kansas, and Terrie Williams and husband Damon of Adams, Oklahoma; grandkids, Nathan Arnold, Larissa Arnold, Zachary Arnold, Amanda Vega, Alex Roybal, Austin Roybal, Andrew Roybal, Amos Roybal, Levi Williams and Dakota Farrington; sisters, Pat Cravens of Silver Lake, Kansas, and Lilla Love of Topeka, Kansas; brothers, Robert Lee of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Ferlin Lee of Liberal, Kansas, and F. M. Lee of Liberal, Kansas; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Velda is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Curtis in 2014; brothers, Melvin Lee and Jimmy Lee; and sister, Brenda Lee.
Memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton. Inurnment will follow at Hugoton Cemetery.
