Obituary for Tony Garcia Sr.

Tony Garcia, Sr., 82, died Friday, November 6, 2020 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born October 25, 1938 in Lowe, Kansas the son of Manuel Garcia, Sr. and Phyllis (Pichardo) Garcia.

Tony has been a lifetime resident of Finney County and Garden City. He attended St. Mary Catholic Schools. Tony began his working career at the Burtis Motors Body Shop before working for Pepsi Distributors. Tony then worked for many years as a sales representative at Western Motors. He then became a sales agent for Farmland Industries until his retirement. Tony was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City, and was very active and served as a past Chairman of the Fiesta Committee. Tony loved music and was the lead singer and bass player for the Dreamer’s Combo. Tony also enjoyed reading, WWII history, watching western movies, yard work, cars, word search puzzles, and golfing.

On January 31, 1959, he married Felisa Mujica in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters Chris Garcia and Stephanie & husband James Grantham both of Dallas, Texas; three brothers Hector Garcia of Houston, Texas, Manuel Garcia, Jr. of Wichita, Kansas, and Louie Garcia of Wichita, Kansas; a sister Ruth “Cookie” Jurado of Garden City, Kansas; four grandchildren Denise Hundertmark, Anthony Garcia III, Alicia Garcia, & James Garcia; and seven great-grandchildren Jonathan Burback, Angelo Burback, Christopher Burback, Olivia Stogner, Tristan Nanninga, Devin Hundertmark, & Nathan Hundertmark.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents; a son Tony James Garcia; a grandson Robert Jerel Hernandez; three brothers Dino Garcia, Joey Garcia, & Michael Garcia; and two sisters Lupe Jimenez and Andrea Flores.

A Vigil service and Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. Noon on Friday, November 20, 2020 also at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to St. Mary Catholic Church or to Garden Valley Church, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home Garden City.
