WICHITA, KS – Shirley Jean Hickmon Fender, of Wichita, Kansas died at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021. Shirley was born to Joe and Gladys (Queen) Hickmon on March 28, 1936, in Homer, Nebraska. She married Donald Duane Fender on December 23, 1954 in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Sargent Bluff, Iowa. Shirley was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City.
Over the years, Shirley and Don lived in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Washington, and Texas. They moved to Wichita in 1984. She was an avid reader and her family was her ultimate joy.
Shirley is survived by Donald Duane Fender of Wichita, KS; daughter, Gail Jean Fender Hansen of Garden City, KS; Son-in-Law, Rick Thomeczek of Garden City; Granddaughters Richelle (Thomeczek) Hansen (Tim); Heather Hansen; Rachel Hansen. Grandson Matthew (Jamie). Shirley was also blessed with eight Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; Daughter, Becky Jo (Fender) Thomeczek; Son-in-Law, Frank Hansen; Granddaughter Nichole Hansen.
