Obituary for Shirley I. Wheeler

Garden City- Shirley I. Wheeler, 82, died on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at her home in Garden City. She was born on October 15, 1938 in Wichita. She was raised by her Grandparents Sam & Louella Noonan and grew up in Byers and finished her schooling in Pratt. She married W. Wayne Wheeler on June 20, 1964.

Shirley earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University. In 1972 they moved to Holcomb where she taught for three years. She became a real estate broker and was an agent for several years. In 1987 she became the Education Specialist for the Kansas Real Estate Commission in Topeka for 2 years. After completing that job she was a substitute teacher in Holcomb for many years. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Garden City where she was a lay preacher, Sunday School teacher and bible scholar. She was a Past President of the Garden City Board of Realtors and was a toastmaster for many events. She enjoyed gardening and was a Certified Master Gardener. She also enjoyed taking photos, knitting, cross stitching and was an avid reader.

She is survived by her Husband- Wayne Wheeler, 4 Daughters- LoWaine (John) Robison of Wichita, Carmen (Jim) Pinegar of Mount Hope, Linda (Lonnie) Edwards of Ingalls and Shonda (Jeff) Collins of Garden City, 2 Sons- Craig (Cathy) Wheeler of Tyler, Texas and Don Wheeler of San Antonio, Texas, 10 Grandchildren- Jacob Wheeler, Aaron Wheeler, Ryan Wheeler, Jason Wheeler, Alan Wheeler, Jim Pinegar, Megan Pinegar, Jamie Renick, Taylor Collins & Rachel Welch and 9 Great-Grandchildren- Everest Wheeler, David Pinegar, Lindsey Pinegar, Kylee Renick, Lauryn Renick, Taryn Renick, Dane Renick, Davin Renick & Madison Renick. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents= Sam & Louella Gilliland and special friends- John & Elma Briggs.

Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Church of the Brethren in Garden City with Rev. Bob Bates officiating. The service will be available Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home facebook page. The family requests masks be worn at the service.
