Obituary for Sergio Ortega
Sergio Ortega, 45, died Tuesday May 11, 2021 in Seward County. He was born in Pdo. de Pena el Oro, Durango, Mexico June 19, 1975, the son of Manuel Ortega and Josefina Herrera de Ortega.
Mr. Ortega was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He was a hard worker, having worked for Wal-Mart for 23 years. He met Alicia Orrantia at a young age, they became middle school sweethearts and married on October 2, 1999 in Garden City, Kansas. Their lives together centered around raising and creating memories with their three children, Karina I. Ortega, Sergio L. Ortega & Daniel A. Ortega. They focused on giving their children the religious principles necessary to help them grow spiritually. He strived to have his children achieve their educational goals as well. He practiced what he preached and graduated from Garden City High School and Garden City Community College. His children will remember his patience when he taught them how to mow the lawn, his true enjoyment of drinking a Coca-Cola (out of the bottle), cheering for the San Francisco 49ers and a genuine giving heart. He was a devout member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Seguidores de Cristo, and was involved with marriage preparation classes.
In addition to his Wife and Children, he is survived by his mother-Josefina Herrera de Ortega; Siblings-Manuel H. Ortega, Carlos Ortega, Aracely Ortega, Hugo L. Ortega, Joel Ortega, & Yolanda Ortega & numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his Father-Manuel Ortega
Visitation will be Monday May 17, 2021 from 10:00 am - 5:00pm at Garnand Funeral Home with A rosary following 7:00pm at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am Tuesday May 18, 2021 at St Mary Catholic Church with Father Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Sergio Ortega Children Education Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N 7th Street, Garden City, KS 67846
