Obituary for Rodney Wayne Stillwell

Rodney Wayne Stillwell, 65 of Garden City, Kansas died on Monday, January 3, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. Rod was born November 16, 1956, in Lakin, Kansas to parents Maynard and Marlene (Hoover) Stillwell.

Rod went to school in Lakin and Garden City. He grew up working for his dad on horseback, taking care of pasture cattle. Rod worked his entire adult life in the center pivot industry. Starting in early 1972, he began building water drives throughout western Kansas and was Sales and Service Manager for American Irrigation for 19 years. Rod was respected by many farmers and other technicians for his ability to troubleshoot issues with any system over the phone. There literally was nothing he could not fix or redesign. He was a quiet and reserved man who only talked when he had something to say, however his laugh and smile were contagious.

The last couple of years, Rod worked with Gina at the family farm. Water conservation became a passion and challenge they both worked closely together. He enjoyed his dogs, driving his General around the farm, and in the evenings looking at wildlife and working on wildlife conservation. Rod enjoyed traveling with Gina and his dogs in their fifth wheel. He also enjoyed fishing and watching the dogs swim and play in the water.

Rod is survived by his wife Gina; daughter Shawna Stillwell of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; grandkids Leo Quijada and Catalina Quijada both of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Stepson Nicholaus Herrmann of Washington, DC; Mother Marlene Stillwell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister Janice (Keith) Cook of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother Randy (Sheryl) Stillwell of Pueblo West, Colorado; brothers-in-law Marc (Jackie) Gigot, Darren (Jennifer) Gigot all of Garden City, Kansas; sister-in-law Lisa Mason of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews, including his special BFF Emeri Bownes. Rod is preceded in death by his father Maynard Stillwell; father-in-law Dean Gigot; and mother-in-law Esther Gigot.

There will be no public services at this time and a private family interment will take place at a later date. The family suggests memorials given to the Garden City Community College Endowment Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. 7th St., Garden City, Kansas 67846.
