Robert Allen Sperling, age 72, of Garden City, KS, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO with his wife and children by his side.
Bob was born on December 26, 1947 to Homer and Fern (Schmidt) Sperling in Newton, KS. Bob grew up in Newton where he graduated from Berean Academy in Elbing, KS. He attended Colby Community College where he met Marie Farmer. They were married in 1970.
Bob spent most of his career as an office supply salesman. In Garden City, where they have lived the past 23 years, he was involved in his community through serving as a Chamber of Commerce member, being actively involved in Cornerstone Church, and as a Gideon with Gideons International. His service to his community and his neighbors earned him the 2011 Chamber of Commerce Award of Merit, Ambassador of the Year, and Champion of the Chamber and it’s programs. He was also involved in Business and Visitation Committee, Garden City Cultural Relations Board, Lions Club, Toastmasters Inc, Leadership Garden City and The Every Voice Program.
He is survived by his wife Marie; daughter Tina Eberhard (Eric); son Jason (Kim); brothers Dave (Tammy) and Rich; sister Carol Gilmore (Gary), eight grandchildren (Heather, Josh, Karenna, Micaiah, Sarah, Isaiah, Deacon and Josiah); niece Chandra Doane (Brett); nephew Matt Farmer (Kellie); and numerous other extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Cornerstone Church in Garden City with Pastor Raul Silva officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the North Outreach Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob’s name to Gideons International in care of the funeral home.
