Obituary for Robert W. Porterfield

Garden City- Robert W. Porterfield, 71, died on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at The Ranch House in Garden City. He was born on June 9, 1951 at La Junta, Colorado the son of William C. & D. Maxine (Webb) Porterfield. He married Marylin L. Penick on December 7, 1974 at Garden City.

Bob was a 1970 graduate from Garden City High School. He started working as a Cowboy at Reeve Cattle Company when he was in high school and continued there after his graduation. In 1972 he moved to Brookover Ranch Feedyard and in 1979 joined with his father at Circle Feeders where he was the Assistant Manager. The family sold the yard in 2009 and he went to Brookover Feedyard. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Garden City and the Kansas Livestock Association. He enjoyed team roping, woodworking and making sure his home and yard was always in immaculate condition. He was known as a man of his word and his favorite parting words were “Glad you got to see me”.

He is survived by his Wife- Marylin Porterfield, 2 Daughters- Shana Tabor of Garden City and Shelly Porterfield of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Son- Clay & Aimee Porterfield of Garden City, Father & Step-Mother- Bill & Jackie Porterfield of Garden City and 5 Grandchildren- Taryn Tabor of Wichita, Taylee Tabor, Teegan Tabor, Ainsley Porterfield and Owen Porterfield all of Garden City.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Friday at First Southern Baptist Church with Rev John Harms and Rev Clay Porterfield officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 PM Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
