Obituary for Robert W. Brown
Robert W. Brown, 79, died Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born August 19, 1940 in Garden City the son of William D. & Margaret (Leatherbury) Brown.
Robert lived most of his life in Finney County and Garden City. After graduating from Cimarron High School in 1958, he served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1960. A long time truck driver, Robert later worked for 20 years as a pilot car driver. He was a lifetime member of the Eagle’s Lodge and the High Plains Bassmasters. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking, and tinkering.
On August 20, 1961, he married Carol Dickenson in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter Anita & husband Patrick Garcia of Garden City, a granddaughter Emma (ET) Garcia and Fiance John Griffin of Garden City; a brother Virl Brown of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; and three sisters Renee Walker of Overland Park, Kansas, Caroline DuVall of Oakley, Kansas, and Nancy Brown of Portland, Oregon. Robert is preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City and the family will be at the funeral home to greet friends. The family suggests memorials given to St. Mary Catholic School in care of the funeral home.
