Obituary for Richard Janas Sr.

Richard Janas, Sr. 60, died Thursday October 29, 2020 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born January 2, 1960 in Abernathy, Texas the son of John T. and Guadalupe (Castilleja) Janas.

Richard grew up in Texas, he later moved to Garden City, where he married Bertha Rodriguez on November 11, 1978. She survives and is comforted by the knowledge that he is with his Savior and she will see him again. He was a dutiful hard worker, currently working for USD 457 as a bus driver trainer. He was a lifelong member of the Church of God of the First Born, led the Youth Group for many years, and delivered meals for them on Fridays and Saturdays. He was a die-hard Chiefs fan. He never participated in sports, so he lived vicariously through his children and grandchildren and their sporting successes.

Other survivors include his Children-Richard Junior Janas, Daniel Lee Janas, Benjamin Fidel Janas of Garden City, John Anthony Janas of Austin, Texas & Priscilla Ann Janas and Angelica Marie Janas of Topeka; Father – Pastor John T. Janas and wife Maria of Garden City; Siblings- Juan Antonio Janas, Paul Janaz, Edward Janas and Melinda Salazar all of Garden City; 13 Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother-Guadalupe Janas.


Visitation will be Saturday October 31, 2020 at Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The family suggests Memorials to the Richard Janas Sr. Memorial Fund in Care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N 7th Street, Garden City, KS 67846
