Obituary for Rafael Urena
Rafael Urena, died Sunday April 25, 2021 at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born October 9, 1938 in Jalisco, Mexico the son of Seferino and Julia (Gomez) Urena.
Mr Urena was born and attended school in Mexico. He lived in various places throughout the United States. His family appreciated his dedicated work ethic. He had worked very physical and labor intensive jobs since the age of 14 until he retired at 80. Most recently at Tyson in the knives department. He married Amalia Medrano in 1967. She survives. Together they raised 6 children, Camerina Gutierrez, Zolya Ruiz, Samuel Urena, Laura Lucero, Hortencia Urena and Rafael Urena Jr. They were fortunate enough to enjoy the love of 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. He was a loving husband, attentive father and best “Abuelo” ever. He enjoyed sweets and eating traditional Mexican food. Many Sundays he could be found surrounded by family, drinking soda and watching soccer and boxing. He will be missed and the memories will be cherished.
Visitation will take place from 12:00-8:00 pm and a Rosary will be held at 5:00 pm Wednesday April 28, 2021 both at Garnand Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held 12:00pm Thursday April 29, 2021 at St Mary Catholic Church with Father Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to St. Mary Catholic Church in Care of Garnand Funeral Home.
