Obituary for Pete Maestas

Garden City- Pete Maestas, 67, died on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born on September 1, 1953 at Fowler, Colorado the son of Pete H. & Connie (Quintana) Maestas. He married Kathie Appelhans on June 10, 1972 at Garden City.

Pete graduated from Holcomb High School. He owned a gas station and worked in the family business- Appelhans Oil Company. He became the Vice President of Petroleum for Garden City Co-op after the business was sold to the Co-op. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City and a board member of the Kansas Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists. He enjoyed riding his Harley, traveling, tinkering in his shop and collecting his “fine treasures”. His special loved was family and friends time.

He is survived by his Wife- Kathie Maestas, Son- Jeromy Maestas, 2 Daughters- Jenni (Shane) Hipp and Jill A. (Randy) Lucas all of Garden City, 3 Brothers- Gary (Diane) Maestas of Clermont, Florida, Bruce Maestas of Mesa, Arizona and Gene Quintana of Buena Vista, Colorado, 2 Sisters- Karlene (Manuel) Garcia of Wichita and Judy Wadford of Mesa, Arizona, Mother-In-Law- Earlene Appelhans, 7 Grandchildren- Shaquille Ornelas of Dallas, Texas, Aneesa Maestas and Zander Maestas both of Wichita, Kylee Hipp, Connor Hipp, Keaton Lucas and Katelyn Lucas all of Garden City, Great-Granddaughter- Marani Ornelas.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Thursday at First Southern Baptist Church with Rev John Harms and Rev Randy Caddell officiating. The funeral will be on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook live. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
