Paul Martin Sterling, 76, died Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born February 10, 1945, in Kingman, Kansas the son of John & Philomen “Phil” (Tatro) Sterling.
Paul moved with his family to Garden City, Kansas shortly after his birth. He has lived in Garden City since. Paul served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from June 13, 1967, to January 22, 1969. After the service, Paul attended and graduated from the Liberal Vocational Technical School. He worked most of career as a mechanic and he also worked as a truck driver for several years. Paul had a passion for cars, and he enjoyed NASCAR, and reading books. He especially enjoyed reading westerns, science fiction, WWII history, and Civil War history.
Survivors include his three children Paul Sterling (Mary) of Garden City, Kansas, Amanda Sterling (Ken Forbes) of Lawrence, Kansas, and Levi Sterling (Tracy) of Garden City, Kansas; seven grandchildren Ethan Forbes, India Forbes, Brian McInnis, Sara Book, Evan Knowlton, Stephanie Knowlton, & Jessika Knowlton; and eight great-grandchildren Amri McInnis, Victoria McInnis, Jayden McInnis, Nova McInnis, Yarisha McInnis, Xavier Knowlton, Chi Knowlton, & Adain Holstien. Paul is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers John Sterling and Edwin Sterling.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas with Pastor Jon Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with military graveside rites conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard and the American Legion District #8 Honor Guards. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Finney County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
