Obituary for Opal Allene Wishon (Kingston)

Opal Allene (Kingston) Wishon, age 88, passed to her eternal life on Wednesday March 30th, 2022, surrounded by her family and friends. Opal felt so blessed to be residing at Garden Valley Retirement Home of Garden City Kansas.

Opal was born July 3rd, 1933, in Phelps County Missouri, to her parents Albert and May (Mary Mabel Laney) Kingston. She grew up and attended school in Saint James Missouri. On December 18th, 1947, Opal married the love of her life, Raymond (Bud) Wishon Jr. in Rolla, Missouri. In the fall of 1951, they moved to Garden City Kansas. Opal loved her family so very much. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was always important to her. Additional hobbies included cooking, sewing, gardening, canning, traveling, fishing, and attending family gatherings. She enjoyed working as a bookkeeper/office manager in the agricultural industry until her retirement in 1990. Opal loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! She was a member of the Garden City Church of the Brethren for the past 70 years, and enjoyed serving as a Deacon in the church.

Opal is survived by her daughter Diane (Max) Crockett of Garden City Kansas, 5 grandchildren, Brian (Ashley) Crockett of Holcomb Kansas, Travis (Haddie) Crockett of Garden City Kansas, Jason (Martika) Crockett of Holcomb Kansas, Shelia (William) Gondoly of Colwich Kansas, Dena (Brandon) Barr of Deerfield Kansas, and 14 great-grandchildren, Isabel Crockett, Sterling Crockett, Max Crockett, Frederick Crockett, Wyatt Crockett, Heath Crockett, Briar Rose Crockett, Willow Reign Crockett, Kyle Reece, Jayna Reece, Kayla Gondoly, Kason Gondoly, Trevin Walck, and Macie Walck.

She is proceeded in death by her Parents, her Husband, daughter Wilma June Wishon, daughter Beverly Ann (Wishon) Coates, son Frederick William Wishon, brother Kenneth Kingston, and sister Wanda (Kingston) Valley.
Funeral service to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 5th, at The Garden City Church of the Brethren with Pastor Bob Bates and Pastor Von Hunn officiating. Interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City Kansas. Viewing will be on Monday, April 4, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to The Garden City Church of the Brethren in care of the funeral home.
