Obituary for Nadine Landon

Deerfield- Nadine Landon, 94, died on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. She was born on June 13, 1927 at Stafford the daughter of James Henry & Anna May (Heimueller) Mathias. She married Richard E. Landon on August 18, 1946 at Deerfield. He died on April 13, 2019.

Nadine moved to Deerfield as a young child and graduated from Deerfield High School. She attended Fort Hays State Teachers College for a year and because of World War II returned to Kearny County and started teaching at Heartland 1 room school. She later moved to teaching kindergarten at Deerfield while also receiving her Bachelor Degree from St Mary Of The Plains College in Dodge City. She then was the Reading Specialist teacher and after retiring from Deerfield she taught several more years at Holcomb for a total career of 35 years as a teacher.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Deerfield where she served as organist, sang in the choir and sang at many weddings and funerals. She enjoyed quilting and always made a quilt for the church auction and her family. She also was a member of the Sweet Adelines, PEO and Delta Kappa Gamma. She liked to play bridge and also was known for her fried chicken, potato salad and coconut cream pie meals.

She is survived by her Daughter- Joleen & Dale Anderson of Buehler, Son- Kent & Bobbie Landon of Deerfield, 3 Grandchildren- Justin Anderson, Teal & Matt Sander and Jade & Brent Like and 4 Great-Grandchildren- Dared Sander, Kelty Sander, Silas Like & Asa Like. She is preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, 3 Brothers- Rolland Mathias, Laddie Mathias & Bob Mathias and 3 Sisters- Lavelle O’Brien, Shirley Graves & Nellie Jane Scheurman.

Funeral Service will be at 4:00 PM Saturday at United Methodist Church in Deerfield with Rev Heureuse Kaj officiating. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday and 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin.
