Obituary for Melva Jane Jones

Meade- Melva Jane Jones, 75, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Garden Valley Retirement Village under hospice care in Garden City. She was born on November 7, 1946 at Syracuse the daughter of Donald Clyde & Arkie Delphia (Sutterfield) Jones.

Melva graduated from Johnson City High School in 1965 and attended Fort Hays State University. She married Ray Rexford in December of 1966 and moved to the family farm near Montezuma where she was actively engaged in running and working the family farm. In 1998 she moved to Port Aransas, Texas where she enjoyed the island life. During her time in Texas, she also made regular trips to North Carolina to see her son and attend NASCAR races up and down the east coast. While staying with him in North Carolina she also visited the beaches along the east coast and made many friends out there as well. In 2016 she returned to Kansas. She enjoyed NASCAR, her Dallas Cowboys and The Kansas City Chiefs, automotive racing events and attending her son’s stock car races. She loved March Madness and supporting all the Kansas teams. She also enjoyed a wide variety of music through her lifetime attending many concerts and festivals from hole in the wall island bars to large outdoor festivals. Melva always had her music playing in the home and in her car while going down the road. Road trips with her music truly mad her happy. She was a lover of life and tried to make the best of everywhere she traveled.

She is survived by her Son- Ondre Rexford of now Montezuma, Sister- Nancy Morgan of Johnson, Niece- Donnie Morgan of Johnson and her Texas island family.
