Obituary for Mary Richmeier
Mary Richmeier, 89, died Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. She was born May 7, 1931 in St. Peter, Kansas the daughter of Wendeline & Mary (Boxler) Richmeier.
Mary lived in St. Peter, Kansas, and at the age of 7, she moved with her family to a farm Northwest of Holcomb. She attended Holcomb schools and graduated from Holcomb High School in 1949. On July 18, 1951, she married Alvin J. Richmeier in Garden City, Kansas. After their marriage, they lived Northwest of Garden City. Mary began working by taking care of children. She later worked as a clerk at Ideal Food Store. She then worked for the next 18 years as a bank teller at Fidelity State Bank in Garden City. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. Mary enjoyed genealogy, crocheting, sewing, cooking, dancing, and polka music.
Survivors include five children Darrell Richmeier of Garden City, Carol Jeannie & husband Wayne Frizzell of Nixa, Missouri, Maynard & wife Roxie Richmeier of Garden City, Mary Ann & husband Mark Gosch of Garden City, and Lynett & husband David Becker of Garden City; three brothers Marvin Richmeier and Francis Richmeier both of Garden City, and Gary Richmeier of Shell Knob, Missouri; eleven Grandchildren; and eleven Great-Grandchildren.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Alvin who died on September 14, 2009. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a son Loran Richmeier; five brothers Lawrence, Arthur, Leo, Elmer, & Robert Richmeier; and a sister Helen Appelhans.
A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. with Funeral Mass following at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to St. Mary Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
