Obituary for Linda B. Berry

Linda B. Berry, age 69, died Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at her home in Overland Park, Kansas, after a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Linda was born August 8, 1951, in Scott City, Kansas, to Cecil and Muriel Lawrence and grew up on a farm between Dighton and Scott City. She graduated from Dighton High School in 1969 and Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School in Goodland, Kansas, where she studied cosmetology.

After her first marriage, Linda married the love of her life, Darrol Berry, on April 4, 1980. While in Goodland, she worked as a hairdresser and pharmacy tech, and after relocating to Dodge City, she worked at the local radio station, the Dodge City Daily Globe newspaper, and Credit Union of Dodge City before her retirement.

After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2018, Linda and Darrol relocated to Overland Park to be closer to their daughters and pursue cancer treatment at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Under the wonderful care of oncologist Dr. Raed Al-Rajabi and his team, Linda was able to extend her survival for three years. She was a star patient, handling major surgery, round after round of chemotherapy and radiation like a champ, always with a smile and a firm belief in the power of a positive attitude.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil & Muriel (Gunther) Lawrence. She is survived by her husband of nearly 41 years, Darrol Berry; her three daughters: April (Jack) Hansen of Overland Park; Cindy (Darrell) Fecht; and Samantha (John) Torrez, all of Olathe; a sister, Peggy Rombough of Andover; grandchildren, Gage Fecht, Abby and Ally Hansen, Shanell, Sydney, Jaci and Jessica Torrez; and two great-grandchildren with one more on the way.

Linda enjoyed her grandchildren immensely, as well as traveling, attending concerts, cooking & making the world’s best peanut brittle for Darrol every Christmas.

The family wants to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Linda’s hard-fought battle is over and we are at peace knowing she is whole and healthy in Heaven where we will be reunited with her one day.

Funeral Service will be held 10:30am Wednesday March 24, 2021 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Steve Payne officiating. Burial will follow at the Dighton Memorial Cemetery in Dighton, Kansas. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday March 23, 2021 at Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton. The family suggests memorial contributions to the University of Kansas Cancer Center’s Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association both in care of Boomhower Funeral Home.
