Obituary for Kathy Jo Winter

Kathy Jo Winter, 62, died Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born February 20, 1960, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Kathy moved with her family to Ft. Myers, Florida when she was a young child. She was home schooled, but later attended high school in Ft. Myers. Kathy and her family moved to Garden City, Kansas in 1975, where she attended high school and graduated from Garden City High School in 1978. She has lived in Garden City since. She has worked as an administrative assistant at the library at Garden City Community College since 1984. Kathy was known by her family to be the strongest person and the strongest fighter they have ever known. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagle’s in Garden City where she once served as Treasurer and President. Kathy was an avid Denver Broncos fan, and enjoyed watching football, watching games shows, puzzles, and going to the casinos.

On July 31, 1977, she married Thomas Winter in Garden City, Kansas. He survives. Other Survivors include two daughters Melanie & husband Charles Kauffman of Garden City, Kansas and Rebecca & husband Juan Rivera of Aurora, Colorado; two sisters Tami & husband Pat Wells of Garden City and Linda & husband Gene Greer of Garden City; a brother Michael Hoezee of Garden City; four grandchildren David & wife Ivette Cruz, Jonathan & wife Brianna Cruz, Van Winter, & Tien Winter; and five great-grandchildren Sophia, Nathan, Valerie, Atom, & Wednesday. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents Melvin Hoezee and John & Patricia (Vaughn) Walters.

Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022, at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas. A memorial service will be Friday, October 28, 2022 at The Eagle's Lodge in Garden City. Condolences may be given at garnandfuneralhomes.com.
