Julia Denise Plankenhorn, 54, died Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born December 27, 1968, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Joe & Donna (Moler) Collins.
A lifetime resident of Garden City, Julia attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School in 1987. She then attended Garden City Community College. Julia worked for 20 years at Cattle Empire and has worked for the last 14 years in accounting at Brookover Corporation. She loved to spend her time traveling, flowers, cooking, spending time with her family, and was an avid KU Basketball fan.
She married Scott Plankenhorn in Garden City. He survives. Other survivors include two sons Tyrel Plankenhorn & fiancé Aubrey Stoy of Garden City, and Evan Plankenhorn & wife Kelsey of Garden City; her mother Donna Collins of Garden City; three brothers Jeff Collins & wife Shonda of Garden City, Mark Collins & wife Tracy of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Matt Collins & wife Jennifer of Americus, Kansas; four grandchildren Pace, Rowan, Cy, & Emery; three step-grandchildren Tripp, Ayden, & Adrick; a brother-in-law Mike Plankenhorn & wife Velda of Garden City; three sisters-in-law Linda Hinde & husband Mark of Garden City, Lori Parker & husband Dean of Derby, Kansas, Jennifer Truelove & husband Barton of Garden City; Leanne Plankenhorn of Pink Hill, North Carolina, and Sherry Plankenhorn of Garden City; and many nieces and nephews. Julia is preceded in death by her father Joe Collins; her father-in-law Lonnie Plankenhorn; her mother-in-law Ruth Plankenhorn; and two brothers-in-law Ronnie Plankenhorn and Gary Plankenhorn.
Family and friends are invited to Time Out Sports Bar & Restaurant from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2023, to honor and celebrate Julia’s life. The family suggests memorials given to the Finney County Humane Society or to the Heartland Cancer Center, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
