Obituary for Johnnie Thompson
Johnnie Thompson, age 89, died Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Western Prairie Senior Living Community in Ulysses. He was born June 28, 1933, on his father’s birthday, near Las Animas, Colorado, the son of John and Mabel Thompson.
John grew up in Johnson. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1958 in Germany. After his honorable discharge, John returned to Johnson and drove truck for 50 years. As a teenager, John followed the rodeo circuit and rode bulls. He married Vicky Sumners in 1998 in Johnson. John enjoyed woodworking and his family treasures some of the fine furniture he made.
John is survived by his step-son, Eddie Good of Stillwater, Oklahoma; step-daughter, Gail Good of Beaver, Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl and Donald Thompson, sister, Wilma Thompson; and step-daughter, Tonya Good.
