Obituary for Johnnie R. Roark
Johnnie R. Roark, 85, died Friday, October 2, 2020 at The Shepherd’s Center in Cimarron, Kansas. He was born February 28, 1935 in Jenkins, Missouri the son of Samual Eugene & Alice Nancy (Davis) Roark.
Johnnie attended school in Missouri before moving with his family to Holcomb, Kansas when he was a teenager. He then attended Holcomb High School. He then served in the Army National Guard from March 1953 to March 1963. Johnnie began working for Northern Natural Gas Company. He later worked for an underground water irrigation company. He then became a realtor and a truck driver. Johnnie then worked as a rural county appraiser until he retirement. He was a member of the Shriner’s, the Elk’s Lodge, and the Studebaker Club of America. Johnnie enjoyed spending his time collecting and working on Studebakers and collecting diecast cars.
In 1956, Johnnie married Gayle Dimitt in Garden City. He later married Gerry Hart on January 17, 1973 in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include a son Steven & wife Elizabeth Roark of Peyton, Colorado; a daughter Tami & husband Larry Crooks of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three grandchildren Matthew & wife Brook Roark, Michelle & husband Brooks Crane, and Sara & husband John Ripsam; five great-grandchildren Emilia, Audrey, Preston, Ariana, & Cadence; a step-son Randall & wife Dana Hart of Mena, Arkansas; a step-daughter Gwen & husband Wayne Goss of Garden City, Kansas; eleven step-grandchildren Johnathan & wife Nicole Hart, Andrew Hart, Chelsea & husband Jessie Rhodes, Chase Hart, Tara Hart, Mason Hart, Daxton Hart, Brandon Goss, Malanie & husband Andrew Jesse, Ryan & wife Ashley Goss, & Russell Goss; four step great-grandchildren Hudson, Hannah, Dexter, & Emersyn; and seven nieces and nephews Roxann, Greg, Shelly, Sheila, Sherry, Grant, & Griff. Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Jimmie Roark; a grandson Zack Litherland; a step-son Robin Hart; and a niece Rhonda Galloway.
A private family service will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
