Obituary for John T. Janas
John T. Janas, 85, died Sunday, March 13, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was born August 19, 1936, in Egypt, Texas the son of George & Lena (Torres) Janas.
John grew up in Texas where he attended schools. He moved to Garden City in 1956 and has lived in Garden City since. He has served as Pastor of The Church of God of the First Born in Garden City for many years. He loved to spend his time preaching at the church and enjoyed handy man work.
On July 22, 1993, he married Maria L. Arreola in Garden City, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include eight children John A. (Irma) Janas of Garden City, Kansas, Paul (Estella) Janas of Garden City, Kansas, Edward (Patricia) Janas of Garden City, Kansas, Angel Janas of Texas, Melinda (Salvador) Salazar of Garden City, Kansas, Mercedes Polido of Texas, Maria Arreola of Garden City, Kansas, & Eunice (Jose) Salas of Garden City, Kansas; 3 brothers George, Deviro, and Zacarias (Gloria) Yanis from El Campo, Texas; a sister Janie (Ramon) Mendoza of Muleshoe, Texas; 45 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents; a son Richard Janas, Sr; and his siblings Fidencio, Mary, Esavel, Procoro, & Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022, at The Church of God of the First Born in Garden City with Pastor Ramon Mendoza officiating. The service may also be viewed on Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Family viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church and public viewing will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday also at the church.
