Obituary for John Brown (Jack) Holdeman

John Brown (Jack) Holdeman left his earthly life to enter his eternal life on February 15, 2022, at 1:15 p.m., at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City, KS.

Jack was born in Iola, Kansas, July 9, 1937. His parents were Alpha Abraham and Mildred E. Brown Holdeman. He had one older brother, Alpha Abraham Holdeman Jr.

He moved to Moran, Ks at the age of 2. On his 5th birthday, he moved to Centerville, Kansas, and there attended school through the 4th grade. He then moved to Burrton, Kansas, and attended 5th through 12th grade.

Jack was an active member of the United Methodist Church and was very active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship at a young age. Jack accepted Christ at the age of 14 and told Him, “I am Yours, You can take me whenever it is your will”.

Jack attended K State for 1 year. He then transferred to Southwestern College in Winfield, for his sophomore through senior year.

Jack worked for Firestone stores in Wichita, Kansas, after graduation until December of 1959 when he returned to schooling at Wichita State University and received a teaching certificate and later received a Master of Education Degree. Jack taught 5th grade in Wichita and Garden City for a total of 35 years. He liked to joke that it took him 36 years to get out of 5th grade.

He retired in 1995. He enjoyed reading, singing in the choir, playing cards, playing in bands, attending the Builders Sunday School Class, participating in and observing various athletic activities, joking and talking to people and volunteering at Camp Lakeside.

Jack and Marilyn were married on August 3, 1958. They have three daughters, Casandra Vanatta (Ken), Jacalyn Mai (Carl) & Mia Horn (Jerry).
Five grandchildren, Jennifer Crawford, Brent Stallman, Holden Mai (Danielle) and Miranda Boggs (Dalton), DaRyan Horn, and three great grandchildren.
