Obituary for John M. Baier

John M. Baier, 79, died Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. He was born June 26, 1943, in Garden City, Kansas the son of Antone & Eleanor (Prevo) Baier.

John grew up in the Deerfield and Holcomb area and graduated from Holcomb High School in 1961. John worked various jobs throughout his life including Lee Richardson Zoo, the Experiment Station, Cummings, Oswalt Manufacturing, and Smith Sand Company. After his retirement he continued to work for Enterprise Car Rentals. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Garden City and the Knights of Columbus #2795. John enjoyed going to auctions, playing dominos, taking care of his yard, and watching golf, KU Basketball and the San Francisco 49ers.

Survivors include four children Jenise & husband Rob Zickefoose of Garden City, Jonelle & husband Myles Guadian of Garden City, Jana & husband John Jenkinson of Lakin, Kansas, & Jacob & wife Maggie Alexander of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; two brothers Robert Baier of Garden City and Bill Baier of Holcomb, Kansas; a sister Dorothy Fairchild of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren Erin Brown, David Soukup, Tyler Zickefoose, Megan Reyes, Beau Guadian, Kymberly Logan, Stephanie Pilger, Ryan Swank, Kayla Swank, Cohen Alexander, & Jacob Alexander, Jr.; and five great-grandchildren Noah, Adi, Emma, Liam, & Elaine.

John is preceded in death by his parents; a son Justin Alexander; five brothers Albert Baier, Tony Baier, Richard Baier, Thomas Baier, & Gary Baier; and three sisters Anita Savolt, Carolyn Benton, & Mary Ann Metz.

A Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to St. Mary Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
