Obituary for Jerome "Jerry" Roth

Jerome “Jerry” Roth, 78, died Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas. He was born February 6, 1943, in Garden City, Kansas the son of John & Katherine (Komlofske) Roth.

Jerry grew up on the family farm and attended Holcomb schools where he graduated from Holcomb High School in 1961. Jerry began working for the Garden City Co-op. He later becoming owner and operator of a fertilizer business but worked most of his life as a farmer. On July 7, 1961, he married Judy Golay in Garden City, Kansas. Judy died on February 17, 1988. Jerry later married Sue (Bailor) Helberg in Olathe, Kansas on March 27, 1999. They moved to Garden City in 2003, and in March of 2021 they moved to Lawrence, Kansas. Jerry was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City, Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence, Kansas, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Fraternal order of the Eagle’s. He enjoyed spending his time playing cards, going to the casinos, golfing, and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was also an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and KU.

Survivors include his wife Sue of the home; four children Chris & husband Todd Widler of Derby, Kansas, Jerry & wife Rhonda Roth of Holcomb, Kansas, Tammy & husband Brian Stimatze of Chandler, Arizona, and Mike & wife Julie Roth of Leavenworth, Kansas; two step-children Mike & wife Tina Helberg of Pleasant Valley, Missouri and Marci & husband Robert Cole of Topeka, Kansas; a brother John Roth of Keenesburg, Colorado; a sister Lucille Johnson of Salina, Kansas; 16 Grandchildren; and 10 Great-Grandchildren. Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Judy; his parents; a brother Lee Roth; and 2 sisters Florence Savolt and Dorothy Wigner.

A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. The funeral Mass may also be viewed on Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
