Obituary for Jeffrey A. Bernbeck

Gove- Jeffrey Alan Bernbeck, 67, a lifetime Gove, Kansas resident died Friday April 23, 2021 at the Lane County Hospital in Dighton, Kansas after a long battle with cancer. Jeff was born May 6, 1953 in Quinter, Kansas to Dale and Avis (Cavanaugh) Bernbeck. He was the 8th of 10 siblings that grew up on the family farm in Gove County, along the Smoky Hill River.
Jeff attended Sunnyside Country Schoolhouse and Quinter High School before working on farms both locally and in Wyoming. He married his loving wife Denise on June 24, 1977, in Ness City, Kansas. He took over the family farm to raise his four children; and also ran his own trucking business up until 2007, when he “retired" to raise cattle.
He was well known for his storytelling and jokes, his love of being outdoors hunting, fishing, riding a horse or his motorcycle. He could solve any problem with some ingenuity and stubbornness.
Jeff will fondly be remembered by his wife of 43 years_ Denise and his four children- Michelle Bernbeck of Allen, Texas; Andrew Bernbeck of Pasadena, California; Alan Bernbeck of Benton, Kansas and Amy (Joey) Parnell of Wichita, Kansas, five grandchildren- Alex, Lily, Aurora, Delilah, and Elena, eight siblings- Phyllis (Russ) Walls of Milwaukee, Oregon, Jerry (Judy) Bernbeck of Utica, Kansas, Judy (Harold) Baesler of Hillsboro, Oregon, Donna (Bob) Karl of Bend, Oregon, Ted (Marie) Bernbeck of Ransom, Kansas, Brenda (Mert) Perry of West Pointe, Nebraska, Berthold Bernbeck of Utica, Kansas, and Mona (Greg) Lutters of Ransom, Kansas, along with numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends.
Jeff is preceded in death by his parents- Dale and Avis, his brother- Norm, and a sister-in-law- Melanie.
There will be no service at this time a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of memorial contributions or flowers the family asks that you drink a beer, smoke some meat, or tell a good joke, bonus if its inappropriate.
