Jeanne Winter died on August 6, 2020. She was 92. The daughter of George and Agnes (Brull) Gatschet she grew up in Hays, Ks along with her four surviving brothers, Tom, Paul, Francis and George. In 1948 she married Charles Winter and moved to Garden City, Ks. Together she and Charles raised their four children in the family home they built together on Davis Street. There, they often shared their home with “the old aunts” for Sunday meals, holidays and family celebrations. As a housewife and mother in the 1950s and 1960s she cared for her children, baked, sewed, kept a great house and taught her children their chores.

Jeanne valued learning and encouraged and supported her children’s educational pursuits. For herself, she pursued her interests in silversmithing, woodworking, needlepoint, stained glass and other projects. She developed her own business as a china painter and instructor and traveled the country with Charles, sharing her expertise. Every pursuit resulted in gifts she created for her children, their families, neighbors and friends.

Jeanne’s most enduring, lifelong relationship was with God. She was a devout Catholic and “charter” parishioner of St. Dominic Church and School. She was instrumental in the development of Perpetual Adoration at Saint Catherine’s Hospital and worked tirelessly for many years to foster its success. She prayed daily to be welcomed in heaven.

She is survived by her children Mary (Jim), Chuck (Mary Ellen), TK and Michel (Emmett), her “Grands”, Lauren, Logan, Shannon, Dianne, Steven, Shane and Zach and seven great grandchildren. She joins her parents, Charles, son-in-law Greg, sisters-in-law Amy and Ethel, many friends and family in heaven.

A Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2020 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:00 a.m. (with social distancing). A private burial is planned. In lieu of flowers, Jeanne requested memorials be given to St. Dominic’s School Scholarship Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. 7th St., Garden City, Ks. 67846.

Your mom will be so missed. Our parents spent many years together in business and traveling to business-related conventions. Our moms continued their friendship at Homestead Assisted Living . I so enjoyed her hugs and her cute mischievious sense of humor. She was just precious, and such a blessing to those who knew her.

God's blessings to each of you and your families.

My thoughts, prayers and fond memories of Jeanne go out to Chuck, Mary, T.K. and Michel - and the whole family - as we mourn Jeanne’s passing and celebrate her life. Her generous and creative spirit, her passionate search for life’s deepest meaning and her service to others touched all of our lives and enriched our souls. Jeanne’s father was a calligrapher & Jeanne was a wonderful glass artist (among many other talents). I am blessed to remember Jeanne - and my old friend, Chuck, and Mary, T.K. and Michel - when I see two gifts on my bookshelf from Jeanne: a calligraphy print by her father and a gorgeous glass ornament that she created. She was a very special person - and a role model for us all. Michael Linenberger
