Obituary for Jane Helen Davis (Hobbs)

Jane Helen Hobbs Davis passed away at The Ranch House in Garden City, Kansas on January 5, 2023. She was born in Rocky, Oklahoma to William Seab Hobbs and Monita Stewart Hobbs on October 13, 1931 in Rocky, Oklahoma, where she attended school until she was eleven. Her family moved to Cordell, Oklahoma where Jane graduated high school and went on to attend one year of college at Panhandle A & M where she met and eventually married Richard William Davis on September 1, 1951.

Richard’s teaching career led them to Muskogee, Texhoma, Woodward, and Beaver, Oklahoma and in 1960 to Altus, Oklahoma where they lived until their final move to Garden City, Kansas in December of 2018.

Jane loved being at home where she raised her family until she began working at Altus Junior College (later to become Western Oklahoma State College, WOSC) in 1967 and retired from WOSC in 1995. During her time at WOSC she was head of the Work Study program, Director of Student Aid, Director of Financial Aid and was named Director of Financial Aid, Emeritus after she retired.

She was a member of the Oklahoma Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA), the Southwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (SWASFAA) and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA). Jane held offices on the state and regional levels and was well respected by her peers. During her time at WOSC she was respected and admired by faculty and students alike.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Richard of 67 years, brothers William Hobbs II and his wife Vivian, sister Joyce Hobbs Cantrell and husband Dr. Bill Cantrell, brother Frank Hobbs and wife Nina, brother Jerry Hobbs, sister in law Betty Ray Hobbs, sister Oleta Hobbs Underwood. She is survived by her three sons Kyle (Cindy) of Manchester, Oklahoma, Jeff (Kay) of Garden City, Kansas, and Lee (Lisa) of Edmond Oklahoma, three grandsons, Judson (Lindsay) of Garland, Texas, Grady of Tyler, Texas, Grayson of Stillwater, Oklahoma and three great grandchildren, Darby, Axton and Wren. Her older brother, Dan Hobbs, and a younger sister, Lynda Hobbs Pence and husband Glen along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Richard and Jane Davis Scholarship Fund at Western Oklahoma State College, Altus, Oklahoma in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City. There will be no services at this time.
