Obituary for Heather Dawn (Campbell) Calzonetti

Heather Dawn (Campbell) Calzonetti was born in Portsmouth, Virginia Naval Hospital on November 19, 1985, to David and Melaney Campbell. She was welcomed home by her two-year-old brother, Dallas. After David received his honorable discharge from the United States Navy, the family moved to Springfield, Colorado in 1987 when Heather was two years old.

The family moved to Vilas when Heather was four. She attended kindergarten and first grade at Vilas Elementary. When David became a police officer for the town of Walsh, Colorado, the family planted their roots, and established their home there. Heather attended school at Walsh from second to tenth grade and then finished her last two years at Vilas High School where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Christopher Calzonetti.

On Heather’s twelfth birthday, she received the best birthday present ever when her sister Alexis was born. Now Dallas and Heather had this precious little sister to follow them wherever they went. The family spent much of their time together at the baseball and football fields, and track meets watching Dallas play competitive sports. Always present, Heather played with her friends and cheered for Dallas and his teams.

Tragedy struck the family in 1999 when Dallas at the age of fifteen died from injuries suffered during an automobile accident. Through the difficult journey of learning to live without her “Bubby” Heather helped care for Alexis and grew to become a young lady with incredible strength and fortitude. Working through this tragedy, Dave, Melaney and Heather accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. The family began attending church at the Walsh Wesleyan Church.

Heather attended Lamar Community College one year following high school. Chris and Heather were married in Lakin, Kansas on August 12, 2006, and to this union two beautiful children were born: Dallas Gregory and Navaeh Renee’.

On November 4, 2011, Nevaeh was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 16 months. The young couple faced an enormous challenge in learning about the disease and how to care for their baby’s needs. Once again Heather faced a life-altering circumstance that would require the strength and fortitude that few must draw upon in a lifetime.

After Chris completed his bachelor’s degree at OPSU they moved to Garden City, Kansas when Chris began working for American Implement. In 2016 Heather worked as a paraprofessional at Abe Hubert Elementary for special needs students where the staff and students grew to love her. In 2019, Heather joined the family insurance company, the Calzonetti Group, obtaining her insurance license.

As their children grew and participated in sports and activities, Heather coached the young girls’ volleyball, softball, and basketball teams. During Dallas’ sporting events, Heather was his number one fan. One of her great joys was watching him excel as a freshman in track and field in the hurdles and high jump.

In 2020, Heather’s mother Melaney was diagnosed and began treatment for cancer. The following year in July of 2021, Heather was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. Once again, Heather had to deal with another heartbreaking and life-changing event. With amazing strength and grace, Heather battled through months of chemotherapy and eventually began a trial treatment. No matter how sick or weak she became, she willed herself to attend every event possible that her children participated in.

Knowing her fight was coming to an end, Heather explained to her family that she was at peace and not scared. Surrounded by her family, this beautiful young lady at the age of 37 passed away at home March 24, 2023, knowing that she would spend eternity in heaven with Jesus.

Heather leaves behind her husband Christopher, son Dallas, daughter Nevaeh, parents David and Melaney Campbell, sister Alexis and brother-in-law Hunter Haney, nephew Kaceton, many aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends.

Preceding her in death are brother Dallas, maternal grandparents Odell and Velma Gregory, paternal grandparents Ed and Sharleen Campbell, Uncle Dell Gregory, Uncle Tom Campbell, Uncle Jerry Campbell, and cousins Diane White, Christopher Hull, and Josh Campbell.
