Obituary for Gwyneth L. Frack
Gwyneth Frack passed away July 29, 2022, at age ninety-seven after a courageous battle with old age. She was born June 22nd, 1925, to Harry and Lucille Nelson and grew up on the family farm west of Larned, KS. She graduated from Larned High School and attended Fort Hays State University. On May 17, 1947, she married Lloyd Frack at St Stanislaus Church in Ingalls. They farmed together south of town with Gwyneth working as a farmwife. She especially enjoyed helping with calving season, driving the grain truck and mowing the lawn surrounding the farm. There were always an abundance of flowers and kittens on the farm as they were her favorite pastime.
Gwyneth left her imprint on many lives as she loved being with people. She actively served the Ingalls Community and Gray County, taking part for well over 50 years in the Gray County Extension Unit, the Ingalls Museum Board, writing the “Ingalls News” for the Jacksonian newspaper, and serving on Compass Mental Health Board of Directors.
At the age of seven, she took a few piano lessons which led to a lifetime of music. She started playing the piano for Sunday School at age 11 and continued to enjoy playing the piano until her death. She served as an organist at St. Stanislaus for 40 years and then upon moving to Garden City in 2001, started playing the piano for church services at Garden Valley Retirement Village. Her musical talents were also heard in the lobby of St. Catherine’s Hospital and at local events as she played the keyboard for two bands: the “Upbeats” and the “Humdingers”.
Gwyneth was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, sister Darlene Thurman, brother-in-law Jim Thurman, and her parents, Harry & Lucille Nelson. She is survived by four children Sharis Bange of Garden City, Janyth (Lon) Pishny of Garden City, Brent (Cathy) Frack of Kechi, and Shawna (Dave) Nehls of Manhattan; 11 grandchildren Meagan (Rus) McNiff, Kenyon Bange, Jalonna (Ryan) Bowie, Shannon (Dennis) Simmons, Jaret (Lindsey) Frack, Brendon (Shannon) Pishny, Bryce (Lindsay) Frack, Brock (Ashley) Nehls, Lyndie (Tony) Trotter, Tarica (Trent) Lare, & Kamri (Jake) Stoppel. She also has twenty-five great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2022, with family receiving friends from 4pm-6pm all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas. Private burial to be held later, no other services planned.
