Obituary for Elizabeth Emma Baker

Elizabeth Emma Baker, 83, died Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. She was born June 17, 1938, in Eureka, South Dakota the daughter of Otto & Emma (Wolff) Opp.

Elizabeth grew up and attended schools in Eureka, South Dakota. She later attended Garden City Junior College. Elizabeth lived in Ashley, North Dakota for several years, later moving to Garden City in the early 1970’s. She has lived in Garden City since. On June 19, 1956, she married Gordon Allen Keim in Eureka, South Dakota. He died on November 23, 1960. Elizabeth later married Roy Hauff on October 19, 1961, in Leola, South Dakota. She later married Jim Baker in July of 1983 in Garden City, Kansas. A homemaker, Elizabeth also worked in various other jobs throughout her life. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church of Dodge City, Kansas and she enjoyed reading, crocheting, and gardening.

Survivors include four children Mitchell (Delores) Keim of Garden City, Kansas, Regan (Rita) Keim of Holcomb, Kansas, Martin (Diana) Keim of Dodge City, Kansas, and Margo (Greg) Deck of Mesa, Arizona; a brother Daniel Opp of Columbia, South Dakota; 5 sisters Doris Moriarty of Brookins, South Dakota, Carolyn Hieb of Rapid City, South Dakota, Janice Jundt of Brandon, South Dakota, Karen Weber of Pierre, South Dakota, & Della Abeln of Groton, South Dakota; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Wanda Leigh; 3 brothers Howard Opp, Morris Opp and Ferdinand Opp; and 2 sisters Marlene Kaul, Susan Ritter.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with Pastor Corky Spitler officiating. The Graveside service may also be viewed on Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to Christ the King Lutheran Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
