Obituary for Diane J. Wolny

Diane J. Wolny passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at home on January 18, 2021 with family at her side. Diane was born September 8, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York.

She grew up in Levittown, Long Island where she graduated from Island Trees High School in 1964. She worked for many years at Springer Publishing Company in New York City until she moved to Garden City, Kansas in the fall of 2002. She worked for more than a decade at the Garden City Public Library until retiring in the Spring of 2013. She also taught art classes multiple times at the Garden City Recreation Commission. Diane was a talented artist who exhibited her work in several juried shows. Diane was known for her quirky sense of humor, her eclectic style, her kind and compassionate spirit, and her dynamic energy. She was a lover of all kinds of music, a classic car aficionado, an avid reader, a collector of books, and a passionate animal lover; especially of cats and dogs.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Walter J. Wolny and Mildred T. Wolny of Cherry Valley, New York. She is survived by her husband of sixteen years Stephen Griffin, sons Christopher Michael (Robin) Fargnoli of Groveland, Florida, Alexander Joseph Fargnoli of Garden City, Kansas, sisters Sue Wolny of Portland, Oregon, and Gale Wolny (Wayne Graham) of Roseboom, New York, grandchildren Abby, Benjamin, Jonathan, Ileana, and Auresa, niece- Kathleen Hurney of Portland, Oregon, several cousins and many friends in Cherry Valley, New York and Garden City, Kansas.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Diane’s life will be held at the Garnand Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 10:30 am. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Finney County Humane Society, Garden City Animal Shelter, or The American Cancer Association in Memory of Diane.
