Obituary for David W. Larson

Garden City- David W Larson, 76 died on Monday February 7, 2022 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, KS. He was born on October 23, 1945 in Long Beach, California the son of Lyle Vernon and Mary Ellen (Bancroft) Larson. David married Bonnie Y Roberts on April 17, 1971 in Long Beach California and shared 50 wonderful years together living in Long Beach, CA, Ridgecrest, CA, Palominas, AZ and Garden City, KS.
David grew up in Ridgecrest, California and graduated from Burroughs High School In Ridgecrest in 1963. Upon graduation, David enlisted in the US Navy as a SeaBee. He served in Viet Nam and earned 3 purple hearts and was honorably discharged.
After the Navy, David worked at Long Beach Naval Ship Yard and then moved back to Ridgecrest and started working for the Civil Service on China Lake Naval Weapons Test Station as a carpenter and was the supervisor prior to retiring. In 2016, he and Bonnie moved to Garden City, KS.
David was an avid racecar driver and builder. He raced at Inyokern Airport in California with the race club The Dust Devils. He was an active member and a past president of The Dust Devils. David also enjoyed coaching baseball and softball with his kids. In later years he liked to promote veteran’s causes and would discuss military with anyone and would make sure to thank a soldier when he saw one.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Larson of Garden City, daughter Christina Britton of Garden City and son, Michael Larson of Bisbee, AZ. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Dakota Britton and 4 grandsons, Conagher Britton, Andrew Larson, Nathaniel Larson and Jesse Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Larson.
Military internment will be March 16, 2022 at 2pm at the Veterans Cemetery at Fort Dodge with honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard and American Legion District 8 Honor Guard.
