Obituary for Curtis G. Sauer

Curtis G. Sauer, 82, died Friday, January 28, 2022, at Castle Rock Adventist Hospital in Castle Rock, Colorado surrounded by family. He was born May 17, 1939, in Scott City, Kansas, to Harold and Gladys (Cheney) Sauer.

Curtis graduated from Scott City High School and Garden City Community College before earning a degree from Pittsburgh State University. On June 16, 1963, he married Ruth Ann Dougherty in Garden City, Kansas. Curtis worked for the US Geological Survey as a Hydraulic Engineer and retired after 28 years of service in 1996. He continued contract work for another 23 years, working at an NTN site at Scott Lake before retiring at the end of 2019. Curtis was a member and served the Garden City Church of the Brethren. He loved collecting pocketknives and wood carving. He especially loved spending time with family and friends.

Curtis is survived by his loving wife Ruth Ann; three daughters Kristine (Christopher) House of Rock Falls, Illinois, Barbara Sauer and Debra Sauer both of Garden City, Kansas; three Grandchildren Kaleb (Amanda) House, Sarah (Derrick) Bereckis, and Lucas House; five Great Grandchildren Cayden House, Elijah House, Reid House, Elody Bereckis, and Scarlett Bereckis; three Step-Great Grandchildren; and two Step Great Great Grandchildren. Curtis is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Gladys Sauer; and a Brother Stanley Sauer.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022, at the Garden City Church of the Brethren with Rev. Bob Bates and Von Hunn officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4 at the Modoc Cemetery in Modoc, Kansas. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials given to the Church of the Brethren in care of the Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
