Obituary for Charles Lee "Chuck" Allen

Charles Lee “Chuck” Allen died January 15, 2021 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, his son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Melissa Allen, and two grandchildren that he adored, Megan Allen and Aaron Allen, all of Garden City. He is also survived by twin sisters Janell McKinney and Joyce Freel of Topeka, Kansas.

Chuck was an active member of Garden City First United Methodist Church, RSVP volunteer at the Senior Center, served on multiple local boards and committees, loved golf and a good card game! HE especially enjoyed travelling with Barbara and spending time with Megan and Aaron. Chuck’s kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Those qualities were present even in his final days.

Chuck was born April 27, 1945 to Henry Narl Allen and Nellie Florence Allen in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Topeka High School and received an undergraduate degree from Washburn University where he was in ROTC. He met Barbara (Brown) while at Washburn University and they married March 18, 1967. He entered the United States Air Force and began a long public service career as both an active duty and civilian employee that took him to all corners of the United States, Asia, Europe, Central and South America. In May 2000 he retired from public service and entered the private sector working for BAE Systems, N.A. until retirement in 2008.

A memorial service will be held at Garden City First United Methodist Church on Friday, January 22nd at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service may also be viewed on Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Military honors will also be conducted by the McConnell Airforce Base Honor Guard. A separate family graveside will be held in Greensburg, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to Friends of Buffalo Dunes and First United Methodist Church Pre-School Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N 7th Street, Garden City, KS 67846.
