Obituary for Barbara K. Solze

Barbara K. Solze, 90, passed away May 17, 2021, in Colorado Springs, CO. Barbara was born March 21, 1931 on the family farm near St. Peter, Kansas during a blizzard. She was the seventh of nine children born to Gottfried and Barbara (Billinger) Knoll.

Barbara married Harold L. Solze on August 4, 1949 in Garden City, Kansas. To this union were born six children - Cheryl, Nancy, Debra, Michael, Barbara Jeanne, and Patrick. Barbara was a homemaker and farm wife until Harold’s death in 1970. Barbara persevered through this tragedy and received her insurance license in 1975. In 1977 she became the first woman agent with American Family Insurance in the State of Kansas and in 1982 she was named as one of the top 100 Agents with American Family, the only woman in this prestigious group. Barbara retired in 1995 and moved to Colorado Springs, CO where she became active in her church, Red Hats, The Barbara Club, and volunteer groups.

Barbara’s passion was her family, an attribute she learned from her parents. She loved to plan get-togethers with her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren as well as with her siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barbara’s beautiful smile was the brightest when she was with family.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her siblings, her daughter Nancy Stegman, and her grandson Kevin Cox. She is survived by her children Cheryl Solze (Colorado Springs, CO), Debra Hunt & Randy Baker (Dalhart, TX), Michael Solze (Otsego, MI), Barbara Jeanne Solze & Randy Smith (Colorado Springs, CO), and Patrick Solze (Bucklin, KS), son-in-law Greg Stegman (Wellington, FL), 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
