Obituary for Barbara Ann Robertson

Barbara Ann (Oliver) Robertson was born on March 19, 1938 to Howard and Bessie Oliver in Overton, Texas. She died on Thursday, October 15, 2020 in Garden City, Kansas. Barbara was the youngest of 11 children, and when she was in the first grade her family moved to Enid, Oklahoma. She met her husband, Forrest “Corky” Robertson while a senior in high school in Enid. They were married 64 years.

Barbara enjoyed being a wife, a homemaker and a mom, but she also enjoyed singing and dancing. She was a member of the Garden City chapter of Sweet Adelines and sung in the choir at Bible Christian Church. She and Corky danced with the Buffalo Stompers Square Dance group, and in later years, Barbara danced with the Finney County Line Steppers.

Barbara was a believer in Jesus Christ for her salvation, and even though she was shy, one of her greatest joys was extending hospitality to people new to her neighborhood and to those who were new to Bible Christian Church. She was bold in sharing her faith and enjoyed praying with others when they were hurting.

Two grandchildren, Zachary and Abby Hunter preceded her in death as well as her parents and 9 of her siblings. She is survived by her husband, Corky; 4 children Beth Schweitz (Arlan), Michele Atkinson (Tom), Michael Robertson (Tina), and Amy Hunter (Tim); a sister Cerita Helt; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2020 at Bible Christian Church in Garden City with Rev. Marvin L. Robertson and Pastor Brian Wilson officiating. The service may also be viewed on Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. A private family interment will take place at a later date in Enid, Oklahoma. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials given to Bible Christian Church or to the Donor’s Choice both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City, Kansas.
