Obituary for Helen Marie Lee

Helen Marie Lee, 95, died Thursday, February 22, 2018 at her home in Garden City. She was born September 8, 1922 in Edna, Kansas the daughter of Orville & Verna (Allison) Triplett.
Helen grew up in the Edna, Kansas area where she attended school and graduated from high school. On April 26, 1942, she married Gordon Lee on the family farm near Edna. They moved to Garden City in 1948 and have lived here since. A homemaker, Helen has been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Garden City since 1948. She was also a member of the Builder’s Sunday School Class, the Good Sam RV Club, and various Bridge Clubs in Garden City. Helen was extremely proud of her family. She was Gordon’s partner in all aspects of life and they worked together to achieve a good life and raise their family. She was a great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Helen was an avid duplicate bridge player. She enjoyed trading in the market, traveling with Gordon, quilting, cooking, and was an excellent seamstress.
Survivors include four children Gail (Mary) Lee of Garden City, KS, Richard (Marlene) Lee of Garden City, KS, Carolyn Davis of Wichita, KS, & Mark (Kathy) Lee of Garden City, KS; a brother Clifford (Peggy) Triplett of Springfield, MO; five grandchildren Lori Lee of Aurora, CO, Jill (Rean) Wessels of Garden City, KS, Melanie (Casey) Hands of Garden City, KS, Jenny (Shawn) Bishop of La Jolla, CA, and Matt Lee of Garden City, KS; five great-grandchildren Peyton Wessels, Ryan Wessels, and Andrew Wessels all of Garden City, KS, Amaya Bishop & Kanava Bishop both of La Jolla, CA. Helen is preceded in death by her husband Gordon, who died on February 22, 2008.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City with Rev. Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the First United Methodist Church or to the Western Kansas Community Foundation both in care of the funeral home.
