Obituary for Billy L. Moore

Billy L. Moore, 84, died Saturday, September 9, 2017 at his daughter’s home in Newcastle, Oklahoma. He was born February 5, 1933 in Reno County, Kansas the son of Emery & LaVera (Loeppke) Moore.
As a child, Billy moved with his family South of Lakin. He has been a Lakin resident since. He attended Lakin schools and graduated from Lakin High School in 1951. Billy served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. After the service he returned to Lakin. A lifetime farmer, Billy enjoyed being active in Community work throughout the years. He was a member of the Emerald Masonic Lodge #289 of Lakin, Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion, Shriners, the Scotish Rite, and is currently serving on the Veterans Memorial Board.
On December 23, 1951, he married Almeda H. Ward in Lakin, Kansas. She died on February 22, 1988. Billy later married Judith A. Hagler on May 18, 1991. She died on April 1, 2013. Billy is also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Rhonda Moore; and a sister Betty Cole.
Survivors include 2 Daughters Sonja (Martin) Christensen of Newcastle, Oklahoma and Jan (Mark) Schiffelbein of San Antonio, Texas; 2 Step-Daughters Michelle (Pat) Marino of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Shawna Jury of Lakin, Kansas; 5 Grandsons Jared Riedl, Cory (Cambry) Riedl, Tyler (Amanda) Riedl, Ryan (Heather) Schiffelbein, and Kyle (Stephanie) Schiffelbein; and 7 Great-Grandchildren Sidney, Lylah, Brody, Kennedy, Summer, Lilly, & Addy.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City, Kansas with Pastor Darrin Hammond and Jim Cole officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard, and the American Legion District #8 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas. The family suggests memorials given to the Shriner’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.
