Obituary for Rebecca Ann "Becky" Burden

Rebecca Ann “Becky” Burden, 48, died Sunday, June 4, 2017 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born September 26, 1968 in Lakin, Kansas the daughter of Gerald S. “Jerry” and Karen Ann (Sack) Burden.
Becky grew up in Lakin where she attended grade school. She later attended Ulysses High School and then Lakin High School. She graduated from Lakin High School in 1988. Becky continued to live in Lakin until 2009 when she moved to Garden City. She has lived in Garden City since. Becky also attended various classes at Garden City Community College. She worked various jobs including the Kearny County Sherriff’s Office, A Para-Professional at Lakin Elementary School, a cook at the Green Gorilla Day Care, the Lakin Recreation Commission, and did clerical work at the Thrift Store in Lakin. Becky loved music where she played the piano at St. Anthony Catholic Church and St. Mary Catholic Church. She also volunteered by playing the piano at St. Catherine Hospital. Becky also enjoyed drawing, ceramics, yarn work, cooking, baking, displaying and participating her exhibits at the Kearny County Fair the Finney County Fair and the Kansas State Fair, and was an avid Kansas State Fan. She also loved her animals especially cats, fish, and dogs. She was a member of 4-H.
Survivors include her mother Karen Burden of Lakin, Kansas; and two sisters Tiffany (Brent) Smitheran and Melissa Burden both of Spring Hill, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her father.
A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017 also at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin with Fr. Rene Labrador as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin and the family will be at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday to visit with friends. The family request memorials given to the Garden City Piano Teacher’s League or to the Garden City Community College Endowment both in care of the funeral home.
