Obituary for Forrest Lavere Walker

Forrest Lavere Walker, age 90, of Johnson, Kansas died Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson, Kansas. He was born July 10, 1926, in Johnson, Kansas, the son Forrest Oliver and Emma Louise (Fiss) Walker.

Lavere graduated from Johnson High School in 1944. He married Bernita “Nita” Felts on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945, at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson. Lavere was a farmer/stockman; and owner of Fiss and Sons Auto Dealership. He sold Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth vehicles and Minneapolis Moline machinery from 1945 until he sold out in 1963. Lavere was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson and the Oddfellows Lodge, past president of Johnson Rotary Club, served for a number of years on the USD 452 School Board, and was one of the founding members of the Kansas Flying Farmers. He was a Scout Master for 35 years, and camping chairman of Santa Fe Council when Spanish Peaks Scout Ranch was built. He had 21 of his boy scouts achieve the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Lavere provided numerous high adventure trips such as Canadian canoe trips, trips to Philmont Scout Ranch, plus a trip to Alaska for local scouts as well as scouts from the entire Santa Fe Trail Council. He also took boys every summer to Spanish Peaks Scout Ranch. Lavere loved to travel and traveled extensively throughout the world.

Lavere is survived by three sons, Forrest Lynn Walker of Wichita, Kansas, Larry Carl Walker of Buena Vista, Colorado, and Lonnie Joe Walker of Manter, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Marjorie Whittington.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 9, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with Reverend Richard Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson. Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson. Memorial contributions may be given to Spanish Peaks Scout Ranch or the First United Methodist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
