Obituary for Lawrence Ferrell

On the evening of September 19, 2016, Lawrence Ferrell passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Lawrence was being visited and comforted by family members and friends at Legacy at Park View in Ulysses, Kansas during the time of his passing. Lawrence was 90 years old.

Lawrence was born in the town of Lakin, Kansas on July 10, 1926. He was one of six children born to the late Alba W. and Yvonne (Florentin) Ferrell. He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Freda (Burns) Ferrell for 69 years.

Lawrence was quite the character. He loved to make people laugh, if he didn’t know your name you were automatically named John to him. He worked at Mesa Petroleum Plant as a plant supervisor. Lawrence loved to travel and he enjoyed taking pictures. He served in World War II and had the unique pleasure of shaking hands with President Eisenhower. Lawrence was a very family oriented man; he loved his wife and grandkids with all his heart.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Alba W. and Yvonne Ferrell; grandson, Dairen; brother, Bernard Ferrell; and sisters, Marie Urie, Alice Mae Irsik, and Lucille Dieker.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Freda Ferrell; son, Paul Ferrell; daughter-in-law, Linda Ferrell; grandkids, Tiffany Randle and husband Clayton, Travis Ferrell and wife Blanca, Robyn Combs and husband CC, Katie Woods and husband Bruce; great-grandkids, Treyton, Tristan, Tatyana, Thalia, Taymarion, Tavian, Taysen, Tayren, Little Bruce, and Zoe; sister, Gladys McMichael; sister-in-law, Janet Ferrell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Vigil and rosary service will be held Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 6:30 PM and funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Peter Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow at the Lakin Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Kansas Military Funeral Honors Team and American Legion 8th District Honor Guard. Friends may call Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
