Obituary for Cecil R. Meyer Jr.

Cecil R. Meyer Jr., age 64, of Perryton, Texas formerly of Johnson, Kansas died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at his home. He was born May 24, 1951 in Ulysses, Kansas, the son of Cecil R. Sr. and Reitha (Malone) Meyer.

He grew up on the family farm near Big Bow, Kansas and attended Big Bow Grade School and Stanton County High School. After graduating in 1969, he went to Colorado Automotive & Diesel School in Denver. He then started his 33 year career with Collingwood/ADM, working in Big Bow, Belpre, Trousdale and Greensburg, Kansas. His agricultural career took him to Perryton, Texas, where he worked for Perryton Equity from 2003-2008. A career change took him to the City of Perryton where he worked as a Waste Water Treatment Manager until his retirement on September 30, 2014.
He enjoyed bowling, racing tri-sports and especially fishing and hunting which he shared with his grandfather and many cousins. He was a member of Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church where he served as a youth leader, Sunday school class teacher and church board member. He had a passion for instructing and empowering the youth in his church and community. He created a 4-H Youth Shooting Sports program while in Greensburg. His most recent love was becoming a grandfather.
After a chance meeting over a pickup truck title and concert at Big Bow Wesleyan Church, Cecil then asked Joyce out on a date. They were married June 7, 1974 in Johnson, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Joyce; daughter Alisha and husband Mitch Grover and granddaughter, Lauren of Johnson, Kansas; mother, Reitha; brother, Charles; sister, Mary and husband Colin Gallagher, all of Phoenix, Arizona; an aunt, Beulah Maginn and husband Joe of Englewood, Colorado; father-in-law, Gerald Nickell of Johnson, Kansas; brother-in-law, Wayne Nickell, West Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law, Sheryl and husband Greg Fiss of Johnson, Kansas, two nieces, two nephews and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Meyer, Sr.; mother-in-law, Betty Nickell; brother-in-law, Harold Nickell.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, Kansas with Reverend Kurt Rovenstine officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
