Obituary for Jerry D. Schulz

Jerry D. Schulz, 65 died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born February 2, 1950 in Tribune, Kansas the son of Wilbert & Delphine Faye (Fulton) Schulz.
Jerry moved with his family to Lakin, Kansas in 1957. He has lived in Lakin since. He attended Lakin schools and graduated from Lakin High School. Jerry began working for KN Energy. He later worked for Oneok Field Services where he retired as a supervisor after 38 years in the natural gas business. He was a member of the Lakin Jaycees where he served a term as president, a member of the Lakin Lions Club where he held the offices of Vice-President and President; a member of the Motorcycle Club, and the CB Club. Jerry enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, 4-wheeling, shooting, traveling especially to Las Vegas, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On February 21, 1969 he married Carol Jean Owens in Lakin, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include 4 children Belinda & husband George Gantt of Gypsum, Ks., Michael Schulz of Lakin, Ks., Dixie & husband Jon Velacich of Lakin, Ks., and Rodney & wife Shannon Schulz of Aurora, Co.; his mother Delphine Schulz of Lakin, Ks.; 2 sisters Pat & husband Charlie Norton of Leoti, Ks. and Judy & husband Steve Moyer of Lakin, Ks.; 8 grandchildren Stephanie L. & husband Ian Hungate of Gypsum, Ks., Jessica Drew of Denver, Co., Meghan Erickson of Aurora, Co., Natasha Velacich of Lakin, Ks., Edward Velacich of Lakin, Ks., Darla Velacich of Lakin, Ks., Owen Schulz of Denver, Co., and Paige Schulz of Lakin, Ks.; and 2 great grandchildren Kelbi Hungate of Gypsum, Ks. and Gunner Hungate of Gypsum, Ks. Jerry is preceded in death by his father and a brother Robert Schulz.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin with Tom Godbey officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The family requests memorials given to the ALS Foundation or to the Lakin Lions Club both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
