Obituary for Charles J. "Hank" Robertson

Charles J. “Hank” Robertson, 95 died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at his home in Garden City. He was born January 9, 1920 in Turon, Kansas the son of John Harrison & Hazel (Browning) Robertson.
Hank grew up in Larned, Kansas where he attended school and graduated from Larned High School. He then served in the United States Army during WWII. He served in the Spearhead Division and served during the Battle of the Bulge. After the service he returned to Larned. Hank began working in parts and body shop at the Ford Motor Dealer in Larned. After 16 years he moved to Garden City in 1960 and has lived in Garden City since. He worked for another 27 years for Burtis Motors and retired in 1987 as the parts and body shop foreman. Hank was extremely involved and a member of the Finney County Senior Center. He was also involved with the Finney County Fish and Game. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, yard work, stained glass work, woodworking, reading, watching TV, and spending time with his grandchildren.
On May 18, 1945 he married Dessie Smiley in Larned, Kansas. She died in July 2002. Hank is also preceded in death by his parents, a son Theodore Robertson; three brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include a daughter Dewees & husband Bill King of Garden City; a sister Mary Lou Bowman of Salina, Kansas; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev. Brian Faust officiating. Graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30 at the Larned Cemetery in Larned, Kansas with military graveside rites conducted by the Kansas Army Reserve National Guard. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. to service time Thursday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to the Finney County Senior Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
