Obituary for William Boles

Dateline: Garden City

William (Bill) Boles, 82, died on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. He was born on August 7, 1932 in Syracuse to William Preston & Minnie (Okerbloom) Boles. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1950 and from Garden City Community College in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed in Pusan, South Korea where he served with the 21st Station Hospital as a Hospital Maintenance Clerk. While in Korea he was on the baseball, football & basketball teams for the hospital. After returning from the service he was employed at Gardiner Dairy and then became employed at Northern Natural Gas as a Maintenance Supervisor and Mechanic for 36 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the Properties Board for many years. He also enjoyed ushering and greeting members and visitors. He enjoyed many sports and participated in softball until he was 69 years old. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing and yearly cycling trips with his son. On August 8, 1953 he married Joanna M. Nusser in Garden City. He loved his family, church & friends. He is survived by his wife Joanna, sister- Verna Herman of Garden City, 3 Children- Stephanie Coleman of Warrensburg, Missouri, Rhonda Sherran of Lake Tapps, Washington & Greg Boles of Wichita, 3 Grandsons, 1 Great-Granddaughter and 1 Great-Grandson.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Saturday
Place: Trinity Lutheran Church
Officiating: Rev Dr Timm Griffin
Private Family interment service will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City
Memorials: Lead A Child-Christian Concern Society for Education, Trinity Lutheran Church or High Plains Retirement Village-Special Care Unit in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
