Obituary for Alberta M. Miller

Alberta M. Miller, 94 of Lakin died Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the High Plains Assisted Living in Lakin, Kansas. She was born September 30, 1920 in Scott City, Kansas the daughter of Abraham & Ann Catharine (Pfeifer) Witman.
Alberta moved with her family to Lakin, Kansas when she was a teenager. She has lived in Lakin since. On December 8, 1939 she married Albert E. Miller in Lakin, Kansas. A homemaker, Alberta also volunteered her time while working at the Budget Shop. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin and a member of the Catholic Ladies Altar Society. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, stitching, and was an avid reader.
Survivors include a son Albert E. Miller, Jr. and wife Linda of Garden City; a daughter Alberta Louise Miller of Lakin; a sister Dorothy Shull of Lancaster, Ca.; five grandchildren Teddie Shelden, Russel Shelden, Mike & wife Robin Shelden, Stacey Baal, and Dana Miller; and two great grandchildren Ashley Shelden and Zoe Shelden. Alberta is preceded in death by her husband Albert who died on July 31, 2001. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Irene Bethany and Tillie Elliott; a brother Leander Witman; two daughters Glenda & husband Fred Church and Barbara and husband Ted Shelden; three grandchildren Alfred Taylor, Jr., Roxanne Louise Taylor and Freddie Church; and a great grandchild Jacob Cornelson.
A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin, Kansas. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2014 also at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Mike Helms as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Ks. The family requests memorials given to St. Anthony Catholic Church or to St. Anthony Church window restoration fund both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
